Fabindia sizes men's kurtas XS to XXXL, mapping to numeric 36 to 48, and its letters run high: a 38 chest is an S at Fabindia but an M at Manyavar. If you shop both brands by letter, you will buy two different fits. Go by the centimetres below.

Yes. Fabindia maps XS to 36, S to 38, M to 40 and so on up to XXXL at 48. That is one letter-step higher than brands like Manyavar, where S is a 36, so always match on chest centimetres.
A 40 inch chest is about 101.5 cm, which falls in Fabindia's M (chest 99 to 104 cm). At Manyavar the same chest is an L, which is why letter-shopping across brands goes wrong.
Fabindia's published shoulder values appear to be garment measurements rather than body ones, so we omit them instead of showing numbers that would mislead. Fit is matched on chest, waist and hip.
